The competition
The Pyrenean town of Sort will host the 27th edition of the Wildwater World Championship, from 7 to 13 June 2010.
This is the first time that the most important wildwater event worldwide is celebrated in the Spanish state.
The long-time tradition of canoeing in Spain and Catalonia and the strong commitment to organize the event allowed Sort’s nomination in 2008 and so achieved the celebration of the Championships for the first time in history; a testimony that was collected last June 2008 in the closing ceremony of the Championships held in Ivrea (Italy).
In the 2008 edition held in Ivrea (Italy) 250 athletes from 25 nationalities took part in the competition. Sort is expecting 31 different nationalities in 2010.
The 1st edition of this event took place in 1959 in Treignac (France), repeating as host in 2000. France also hosted the Championship in 1969 and 1987, in Bourg St. Maurice.
